First Sunday of Advent 2021

With the Celebratory Season finally upon us, we turn our attention to the season of Advent. The word "Advent" simply means "arrival" or "coming," particularly the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Incarnation. And while Advent prepares us for the celebration of Christmas, the First Sunday of Advent is always reserved to remind the church that there is a Second Advent, a Second arrival, a Second coming of Christ in great power and glory. In this second lesson from David Burke, he continues to shares his notes and thoughts from a conference on Biblical Inerrancy that he attended when the debate over the authority of Scripture was at the forefront of Western Christianity, particularly in the United States. David shares with us a few notes from the lectures given by Luis Palau, a well known evangelist from Argentina who was a contemporary of the late Billy Graham.

So far throughout our study of Hebrews, this beautiful sermon and epistle has shown us that the Lord Jesus is God's Superior Revelation to the world, our Superior hope, and our Superior High Priest. Now, as we begin to wind down this letter and prepare for Christ the King and Advent, we turn our attention to the Lord Jesus's sacrifice of himself as the Superior once-for-all offering for sin.
